Lew Perkins is one of the most renowned directors in the department of athletics and also the most successful coach ever known.
The students coached by him are all doing well in their own athletics sphere, and has won a lot of awards and trophies, for their schools and universities.
Fund raising by Perkins
He has been instrumental in raising a large amount of fund for the welfare of the athletics society, both students and coaches.
The Kansas University fund increased during the years he was the athletics director, which was from the year 2003 – 2010. The university fund was $27 million, but when Lew Perkins joined the university, the fund reached $55 million. This fund was utilized for the service of the university, the service of athletics and that of the coaches as well.
The Numerous Facilities and Services provided due to the Raise in Fund
a. In the summer of 2008, Anderson Family Football Complex was built along with two practice fields.
b. In the January of 2006, Booth Family Hall of Athletics was inaugurated, and it was expanded in the year 2009. In the year 2008, Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame had been unveiled in the Hall of Athletics, keeping in mind the tradition and history of the University of Kansas.
c. Allen Fieldhouse was redecorated and innovated. Major innovations were accomplished.
- New practice faculties
- New lounges and locker rooms
- New donor atrium, which is beautifully decorated
- New concourses
- New concession stands
Some more renovation includes:
- Bleachers were painted
- New lights were put up
- New windows were installed
- New sound system were installed
- New score board were hung, which includes a large art video board
d. There have been new additions in the basketball complex too. These additions are as follows:
- New club house
- Hitting facility which is indoor
- New score board
e. Aquatic Rehabilitation Centre was made, which has 3 hydro works pool, and this center is totally supervised by the medical staffs of the University of Kansas.
Lew Perkins has been associated with many schools and universities and has helped in the development of sports and athletics. He will also be coaching the girl’s basketball team of Seabury Academy.
The teachers and coaches are eagerly waiting for Perkins to join, and learn from his experience, and see their academy rise to great height in sports.
